Several elective courses are offered by the University of St. Francis. The Illinois State Board of Education lists other areas of instruction that candidates may have taken to waive the elective needs of 6 credit hours. See below for course availability.

  1. First aid (offered at several colleges and universities)
  2. Psychology of adolescents or young adults. EEND 630
  3. Any safety-related course relevant to driver education
  4. Advanced driver education in the use of simulation and multiple car programs. EEND 619
  5. Health and wellness; (Any Physical Education or Health Endorsement Course)
  6. Care and prevention of injuries
  7. Issues related to alcohol or drug abuse; EEND 733
  8. Driver education for students with disabilities. EEND 620



EEND 619 Methods of Teaching Advanced, Evasive, Simulation and Range
This course examines the methods for delivering the Simulation and Range phase of Driver Education. Includes Simulation and Range program organization, development, design, scheduling and teaching strategies and techniques. This course will also require the Teacher Endorsement candidate to be present for field experience at a high school that provides these phases of instruction.

EEND 620 Teaching Driver Education to Students with Disabilities
This course examines effective methods to teach driver education to students with disabilities in both the classroom and behind the wheel phase. Eligibility of students, legal issues, outside placement of services, and case studies in special education as they relate to driver education are also covered in this course.
