Our Program

The Illinois Driver Education Teacher Endorsement Program (IDETEP) is made up of retired and current driver education teachers in the State of Illinois. We are partners with the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois and we are dedicated to educating potential driver educators. The purpose of our organization is clear as you read the following goals of our organization :                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          
-To provide educational courses for undergraduates and experienced teachers in the State of Illinois seeking to obtain a teaching endorsement in Safety and Driver Education.

-To promote research and professional development which attempts to solve the problems associated with traffic safety and publish the information for use in public high school driver education programs.




The Program

The IDETEP/USF Program of Course Offerings

Required Courses

Injury Prevention and Safety covers the history, philosophy, and methods of preventing accidents, focusing on physical activity, sports, household, workplace, school, and traffic safety.

Driver Task Analysis forms the backbone of the curriculum, administration, legal, organizational, financial and procedural aspects of Driver Education.

This course focuses on two main objectives: teaching methods for Driver Education and developing strategies, content, and materials using diverse instructional techniques.

This course examines methods for delivering a sequential in-vehicle phase of a Driver Education program.

Elective Courses

This course examines the methods for delivering the Simulation and Range phase of Driver Education.

This course examines effective methods to teach driver education to students with disabilities in both the classroom and behind the wheel phase.
